What you'll get: 1,000 bonus AAdvantage miles for each qualifying stay of two-plus nights, up to a maximum of 15,000 miles
Per IHG One Rewards' terms and conditions, qualifying rates include reward nights, so you could earn bonus miles even if you book your stay with points. If you reserve a stay with cash, you'll earn additional miles at most brands. IHG's partnership with American Airlines lets you earn 2 AAdvantage miles per dollar spent on qualifying room rates at all IHG brands except Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites (which earn 1 mile per dollar spent) and The Venetian Las Vegas (which doesn't earn miles).
So, for example, if you booked a two-night stay at a Holiday Inn that cost $300 before taxes and fees, you would earn a total of 1,600 miles (2 miles per dollar spent times $300 plus 1,000 bonus miles). That's in addition to any rewards earned on your credit card to pay for the stay.
However, remember that when you choose to earn AAdvantage miles (or any other airline rewards) on your IHG stays, you forfeit your ability to earn hotel points. That means if you take advantage of this promotion, you won't earn any IHG One Rewards points. You should, however, still earn elite qualifying night credits and get any elite status benefits during your stay.

How to redeem AAdvantage miles
Per TPG's August 2024 valuations, AAdvantage miles are worth 1.7 cents apiece. That means that if you maxed out this promotion, your bonus earnings (15,000 miles) would be worth roughly $255. Even if you don't have the means to complete 15 two-night stays this fall, the bonus miles you earn from this promotion could get you further than you think.
American has plenty of domestic award flights for under 10,000 AAdvantage miles. For instance, if you live in Denver, you could escape the cold this December and plan a weekend getaway to San Diego for only 7,500 miles each way.
Or, if you're on the East Coast, you could plan a January ski trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for as low as 6,000 miles each way.
You could also save your bonus miles for a bigger redemption, such as business-class flights on partner airlines or off-peak flights to the Caribbean and Mexico.

Bottom line
AAdvantage miles are a valuable rewards currency, and IHG's latest promotion lets you earn more of them through hotel stays this fall. This promo is especially helpful for weekend warriors, as you'll get the most bang for your buck when you book multiple separate stays of two nights or more.
